Man, I’m glad that I got over myself and listened to the realtor. She was definitely right when it came to how much value was added to our home with an HVAC upgrade. But it took me more than a minute to really see just how right she was. That was just being stubborn and ego hurt on my part. When the realtor came out to see the house prior to listing it, I was sure she’d be just thrilled with what she found. What I didn’t realize was that this woman was a real estate professional and didn’t have the rose colored glasses I did when it came to our home. To me, that house was the best. It had everything we wanted and we raised three great kids in there. The HVAC equipment was getting closer to twenty years old but it was in great shape thanks to plenty of HVAC maintenance over the years. On top of that, the location was great, it sat on a 5 acre lot and there was even a man cave. Again, this was all my perspective and while I lived there and knew the place as well as anyone, I wasn’t a real estate professional. And the woman listing our house was a professional and she cut right to the chase. Listening to her point out all the needed improvements before we could sell the place was demoralizing to the point that I was almost getting angry. But after a week or so of doing my own due diligence, I realized that she was one hundred percent correct. We got the HVAC unit replaced with the latest in residential HVAC and sold the place for a bundle.
