Preventative dental care is important for the family

Preventative dental care starts in the home.

  • It is important to develop early healthy dental habits that can absolutely reduce the amount of cavities and gingivitis you will have later in life.

In order to have good oral hygiene, you should brush your teeth at least two times every day. You should use a toothpaste that has fluoride during the morning and night. Daily flossing will help keep plaque particles from building up. You should avoid eating acidic foods unless you can brush your teeth immediately following, because the acidic foods can absolutely affect tooth enamel. Another great way to provide preventative dental care is to go to the dentist regularly. Regular oral exams should occur every 6 months. You should have your teeth cleaned during that time and have routine x-rays taken as well. If you have dental insurance through your business or company, you can easily find a preventative dental care provider near you. I try to make sure that my kids understand how important it is to brush your teeth in the morning and at night. We set a timer and make sure that they brush for a full 30 seconds. We make sure that the kids know that dental hygiene it’s just as important as taking a shower and changing your clothes in the morning. When I was a kid, there was no one in my house to express how important preventative dental care would be and now I am paying for those consequences. I have to pay for expensive dental work to be completed and most of the dentistry will not be covered under my insurance plan.
