My dad is one of those people who believes in using a working appliance, a car, or a device until it literally dies. He has always been this way from the time I was a kid. He’d make sure we got the most from anything in our home. Only after learning there were no more repairs to be done dad would buy a replacement. I remember this old station wagon that we had when I was about 8 years old. Dad loved that car but everyone else hated it. One day we were driving home from a school pick up and the car started smoking in the middle of the road. Dad pulled over, and tried his best to fix it but it was done. Only then did he buy a new car and mom made sure it was the model she wanted. Years later, little has changed. Last summer I went home to visit my folks and found they had an issue with faulty air conditioning. Mom said she had been insisting it was time to replace the air conditioning but dad was against it. Since she knew the end was near, she didn’t push the matter, and lo and behold, the air conditioning stopped working. Dad contacted the heating and cooling business in the area for assistance but they were fully booked for the next 3 days. I happened to drive a day earlier and now I was sweating so much because the air conditioning was off. Dad knew he made a mistake and apologized to mom promising to tackle the faulty air conditioning matter.
