I still do all of my heating and cooling work for the local supplier, but now I don’t come into the household and stare at my modern kitchen thinking it’ll make me happy
A nice household is a fantastic thing, but when it is the sole focus of your happiness then it may not bring real happiness! I know because I was doing this same thing. I would work at a job that didn’t satisfy me and then try to substitute and buy things for my home, thinking that it would satisfy me and make me happy, but all those modern things didn’t make me feel pleased deep down and I was constantly longing for more. Eventually, I also sold my household and opted to pursue the performing arts in air conditioned clubs around the country and the world, and this change made this local supplier owner a lot happier, and a modern granite countertop is great, but it pales in comparison to entertaining a group of lively travelers from around the world and attaching with them through laughter. I now play rock n roll beside a crackling fireplace in a ski lodge and make fun songs while my buddy and I are all heating up beside the fire. I used to know a modern swimming pool would make me happy, but now I know that it is about creating something particular and attaching it with people that will bring me lasting joy. I live in a self-explanatory and small flat now and chose to rent instead of owning so I can focus my energy on things that are greater than a modern media air cleaner or kitchen sink.
