Building your own home is not as easy and convenient as it once seemed.
We are so thankful for our house; it is a great size for us, and its old farmhouse look is truly our favorite style.
The only thing that my husband and I don’t like about our current home is the location; it’s in the city. My husband was offered a job last year that we never dreamed he would get, and it has enabled us to be able to save enough money to start building our dream house. The design for our new home is similar to our current house, but the land we purchased to build it on is way out in the country. At first, I loved the thought of building our own home, but after realizing how many decisions have to be made, I find it to be a very stressful task. Believe it or not, the hardest decisions for me so far have been picking out the HVAC units that are both practical and affordable. After much researching, we decided to go with a central air conditioning system throughout the house. I really wanted to heat the house the old fashioned way with wood stoves and fireplaces, but my husband wasn’t into it. We eventually agreed that radiant floor heating was our best option. The last HVAC decision we made was to instal an air purification system throughout our entire home because of the air pollution we get from the large cities surrounding us. With all the decisions that come with building your own house, I think it may have been easier to just stay in our current home, but I’m glad to be moving out of the city.
