One of the busiest days during the week is Friday.
Even though we are open for business on Saturdays, it does seem like Friday is often the busiest day of the week. Last Friday I had 17 jobs on the schedule, including two repairs, two insulation jobs, and a handful of tune-ups. I had seven guys scheduled to work in the HVAC repair shop that day. Before 9 am, three of my best employees called in sick. The previous night, all of the employees went out together to celebrate someone’s birthday. Three of the guys that ate tacos from the restaurant got sick. One of them had gone to the emergency room and was presumed to have food poisoning. The other two guys were at home and in miserable shape. I couldn’t say much to the employees, because they are always very trustworthy and dependable. If they were sick, I trust that they really can’t come to work. I’ve seen these guys work with a headache, sore throat, cough, and they still work hard to complete all of the jobs on the daily schedule. It hurt not having the three guys to help us out that day, but the other employees worked hard to pick up the slack. We all had to work a couple of extra hours, but I was proud of the way that my team pulled together to get all of the work completed. We managed to complete every one of the HVAC repair and installation jobs and everyone had the next two days off at home with their family.
