I’ve been living with my dad for 5 years now ever since I moved back home.
When mom passed away, I knew he would be lonely.
My siblings and I tried to encourage him to visit friends or have a social life. But, he became more of a hermit barely ever leaving the house. At one point a neighbor phoned me saying she was worried about him since he hadn’t been outside in a week. I went to visit and the state of the house told me everything I needed to know. Dad was lonely and I had to move back home to take care of him. Luckily, I managed to convince my boss to make my position remote and relocated back home. Slowly I saw the light in dad’s eyes shine and he enjoyed very much cooking for me. My job was making sure the house was in good order including booking HVAC maintenance. Ever since we were young, dad had taught us the importance of proper HVAC maintenance. It was the best way to have an efficiently working unit in your home. Plus, it did wonders for the lifespan of the HVAC system. Dad had been an HVAC technician before selling his business. Now, we had an area AC business which took care of all the HVAC systems in the neighborhood. A friend of my dad’s always came by when I called to come and inspect the system in our home. He had worked for dad when he started out as an HVAC technician straight out of HVAC school. He always says the lessons he learned from my dad is the reason why he is so successful in his career.
