So long to a valiant HVAC unit

It’s weird when you’ve had something like a car or in this case, a heat pump so long that you sort of think of it as more than a machine. Well, that’s exactly how I felt about the old HVAC unit that was just recently replaced in our home. Honestly, I know that this thing was heating and cooling equipment but to me, it felt like an entity looking over our family. Then again, I drive an 18 year old truck that I refer to by her name. That’s the sort of thing I’m talking about here. While I didn’t name the HVAC unit, I was for sure humanizing it on some level. But that was also the very first big time, adult purchase I had to make as a brand new homeowner. We inherited old HVAC equipment in order to save a bunch on the sale price of the house. We got a couple of years out of it before we had to contact the HVAC company about getting new residential HVAC. And that’s when we got the heat pump that would go on to provide us great quality heating and air for the next 25 years. I mean, it helped us as we were raising our family by always producing the heating and cooling we needed. That’s some essential stuff when it comes to living in a home and raising a family. So when the HVAC technician told us it was time to get new residential HVAC, it was a bit of a gut punch. Not so much due to the costs or anything like that. It’s just that I knew it was going to be hard to say goodbye to the old HVAC unit. It’s been there for us for a long, long time.
