Close doesn’t cut it when it comes to HVAC cooling

So when the HVAC technician came out to do the air conditioning tune up, I was in for a surprise.

And that’s what sort of bothers me about this whole thing. How in the world was I surprised that the 23 year old HVAC unit was about to take the dirt nap? I got lulled into a false sense of security or I just glossed over that fact for comfort. Either of those answers aren’t exactly acceptable. But when the HVAC professional told me the time had come to replace the heat pump, I just stared at him. We inherited that HVAC equipment and weren’t expecting much from it. That was 12 years ago. The longer it provided us with heating and cooling, the more we just sort of put it out of mind. Then, I joined the HVAC service plan. That seemed like a no brainer to me given the fact that we were entitled to discounts and if the HVAC unit ever broke down, we just paid for parts. The HVAC service charge was waived. That’s because the HVAC service plan also came with HVAC maintenance in the fall and again in the spring. So that’s how I just sort of forgot about the HVAC unit. Of course, we weren’t prepared financially for a new heat pump. So this summer has been miserable. The thermostat setting has been in the low 80’s during most of the day just so we can limp this thing into the fall. Close sure doesn’t count when it comes to HVAC cooling. At least next summer will be full of great HVAC cooling with the new residential HVAC that is coming this fall.
