I was afraid to work with the HVAC technician.

After spending almost 6 months going to HVAC classes, I was still unsure if I was ready to become an HVAC technician.

• My father told me I had done an amazing job, and it was time to practice what I had learned.

He put me with their most experienced HVAC technician they had in the company and told me to prove what I could do.I knew I could do the job, but I was afraid to work with the HVAC technician my dad had assigned to work with me. Before going to HVAC technical school, I had referred to him as an uncle. Now, my uncle had become the man who was going to either make or break my career as an HVAC technician. I knew him to be a fair man, but I also knew he was tough on new recruits. He believed that being tough on a new HVAC technician would make them realize what they were going to have to go through when they were no longer under his tutelage. Once I got over my fear, I got into the service van and went to my first HVAC repair. The senior HVAC tech expected me to do the repair properly, even though he was looking over my shoulder. I was so nervous that I was shaking from head to foot. I should’ve just relax and enjoyed my first day at work. My mentor talked me through everything I had to do and ‌told me I was going to be an excellent HVAC tech. He said he was proud to be the one who got to teach me how to do my job.
