Our home needed a new HVAC system.
We still had the HVAC system that was in the house when we bought it nearly 25 years ago.
I wasn’t sure how old the HVAC system was then, but we were fairly certain it needed replaced. We saw some rusty spots on the ductwork, when we were redoing our basement. The air conditioning unit wasn’t as efficient as it once was, and it was running almost all the time now. We wanted to have the new HVAC ordered and installed during the lull between spring and summer, when the HVAC system wasn’t in use. We called the HVAC company and told them we needed an HVAC contractor to talk about the new system. The young man they sent out didn’t seem old enough to do the job we were considering. My husband said that everyone starts out young before they become old fogeys like us, and I laughed. He was right, so we sat down to talk to the HVAC contractor. We knew he would need to do some measurements and look at the ductwork. He told us the ductwork could be the old tin ductwork, or flex pipe, which was cheaper, and it was also less invasive. I was hoping for a non-invasive, but I didn’t think that could happen. He suggested using ductless HVAC and told us how it would be installed, and how many units we needed. My husband and I had a lot to think about, which is why we wanted to get all the information before spring arrived.
