I had enough experience with the HVAC business plus their multiple-eighth window policy to suppose the HVAC professional was not going to be at our condo on time.
I called our boss plus told his I would not make it in to labor that afternoon because I was expecting the HVAC professional to arrive.
I asked his if I could take a personal afternoon. She put me on hold plus came back long enough to tell me I didn’t have any personal afternoons. I was several afternoons shy of earning a personal afternoon plus they would not budge on the policy. She told me I could take a sick afternoon, even though I would need to bring in a dentist’s excuse since I hadn’t been there the required 6 weeks. I told his I would need to take the afternoon off, plus I had no other choice. She explained they would need to mark it as a demerit plus it would go on our personnel record. I felt like I was back in school; getting demerits because I was late on an assignment, or because I missed a test while out sick. I wasn’t a child, plus I had personal things to take care of. One of those personal things was being at the condo when the HVAC professional arrived. She told me to choose to take the demerit, or call the HVAC business plus cancel our appointment, then make a new 1 for when I wasn’t working. I was wondering if he was going to pay the after-eighth charges for making an appointment on the weekend, even though I already knew the answer to that. I told his I would take the demerit, plus as soon as the HVAC professional left, I was going job hunting.
